DMS Tigers remain unbeaten

Rashad Lynch added to his growing middle school legend Tuesday night when he netted more than 300 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns in DMS’ 41-20 win over Sweet Water.

“He’s great,” first-year head coach Daniel Flowers said. “I’ve never seen a middle school player with attributes like Lynch. He’s something special.”

While Lynch has tallied nearly 600 all-purpose yards in his last two contests, Flowers is quick to point out the rapidly improving cast around DMS’ biggest weapon. That cast came through in fine fashion Tuesday, helping DMS move to 3-0 on the season.

“Tripp Perry is getting a lot better. No interceptions (Tuesday) night. He was right on the money,” Flowers raved about the Tiger quarterback, who went 4-for-6 on the evening for 86 yards and two touchdowns. “I never thought Tripp Perry would be throwing touchdown passes in the third game his first time every playing quarterback. I think he is surprising everybody.”

Perry, whom Flowers compares with Demopolis High counterpart Ben Pettus, found Bobby Taylor for one touchdown pass and hit Lynch for the other.

Lynch’s 30-yard scoring reception was his only catch of the night, but he turned in 227 yards rushing and two end zone strikes on 12 carries. One of those runs was a 99-yard scoring sprint. Lynch also went to the air for a score, hooking up with Wil Stephens for a touchdown pass.

Demopolis also got ground game production from other sources.

“Demetrius Smith finally came along,” Flowers said. “And Keishaun Scott had 10 carries for 65 yards.”

The Tigers will attempt to remain unscathed Tuesday when they visit Selma’s Chat Academy.

“I didn’t expect we were going to be winning the way we are winning,” Flowers said. “I knew the talent was there. I saw the pieces. But they are coming together sooner than I expected.”
