The gavel to commence the  2011-13 administration of the Elite Lindenite Organization Inc. was on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The meeting was hosted by Annie Robertson at the home of Mattie Herd in Linden.
After the summer hiatus, the group was called to order by president Mattie Herd. The devotion was rendered by Lillie Tate and Arnita Robinson.
The Elite Lindenite Organization is one of west Alabama’s oldest grass-roots organizations, and although it was conceived four decades ago, the members state that they are still a movement and not a monument.
For their October community service project, the members will donate and participate in the annual walk-a-thon and breakfast sponsored by the Cancer Society, led by Jeanette Johnson and Christian Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 16. The walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Demopolis City board of education office and will conclude at Christian Chapel Life Center, with breakfast and an informative program will follow.
For their annual cultural excursion, the ladies will travel to Huntsville and take in a play on Nov. 9.
The Elite Lindenite would like to thank their many advertisers for their selfless generosity for promoting the 2010 scholarship recipients. The five freshmen are enrolled in college and have been awarded their cash scholarships.
The members would especially like to thank Dan Wilson and the Colony Office staff who printed the souvenir booklet. Dan has a long relationship in assisting the progressiveness of the organization.
For four decades, the organization has sponsored a biennial Christmas Gala as a way of giving back to the sponsors, family and friends who have helped promote its many projects. This year, the invitees are in for a treat; the gala will include a catered dinner and  music by the live band, Private Property of Birmingham. Sly’s Photography of Montgomery will be on hand to capture the night with stills.
A delectable meal was prepared by Annie Robertson which included shrimp cocktail salad, fruit kabobs, pasta salad, potato salad, ham, fried chicken, steamed okra, mixed greens, field peas, creamed corn, cornbread pancakes, strawberry trifle, lemonade, dinner wine and soft drinks.
Officers for the 2010-13 term include president Mattie Herd, vice president Annie Robertson, secretary Nadine Rogers; assistant treasurer and chaplain Arnita Robinson, treasurer Frances Jackson, financial secretary Lillie Tate, assistant financial secretary Dorothy Gamble, parliamentarian Voncile Jackson, hospitality Geraldine Curry and Eunice Jones, chair of programs Estella Shields and reporters Telena Williams and Eunice Jones.
