After sustaining its first regular season loss since 2007 last Friday night against Sweet Water, Linden is back at work in preparation for a surprising Greene County squad.
“I thought we had a real good day of practice,” Linden head coach Andro Williams said of the Pats’ first day on the practice field this week.
“We knew what we were there to do last week and knew we didn’t get it done. We can build on it. I don’t learn anything from losing. But we know what we’ve got to do to help ourselves down the road. We knew we needed to put them away if we had the opportunity to put them away. I thought we definitely had opportunities.”
The Patriots step out of region play this week to tangle with a streaking Greene County Tiger team in Eutaw.
Always noted as having high quality athletes, the Class 4A Tigers have found a way to put it together in the season’s early going, having outscored opponents 139-46 while rushing out to a 4-0 record.
“We’re going to see a very talented, confident football team,” Williams said of Greene County. “We know there will be a lot of people there trying to cheer Greene County to 5-0.”
Williams noted beating Greene County will require discipline and strong tackling from the Patriots.
“I know we can’t play their style of football,” Williams said. “We know we’ve got to contain those athletes they have. They are going to line up and they are going to do things right. We’ve got to go in there and play Linden Patriot football. They run a lot of different stuff at you and make you have to defend the entire field.”
