LINDEN – Patrician capitalized on three early Marengo Academy turnovers as the Saints cruised past the Longhorns (2-4) 42-14 Friday night.

The Longhorns first three offensive possessions ended in turnovers, which the Saints quickly turned into a 24-point lead.

The turnovers quickly proved too much to overcome and the Saints took a 30 point lead into the half.

Marengo had their chance to crack the endzone at least twice in the first half but were stuffed both times on fourth and goal from the two.

The Longhorns employed a sneak attack to open the third quarter when David Creel pounced on the short kickoff to give the Longhorns the ball. However, three plays later, an interception killed the drive.

Patrician added another score with 50 seconds left in the third and after more than 36 minutes of play, the Longhorns finally answered.

Matt Etheridge chiseled his way through the Saint defensive line from 4 yards out to cut the lead 36-7.

Patrician would stretch that lead back out with their fifth touchdown of the night.

With the game clock winding down Etheridge found the endzone yet again, this time from 9 yards with just more than a minute to play, and cut back into the Patrician lead before the final horn.

Etheridge served as the ‘Horns principal offensive weapon, rolling up 107 yards on 18 carries. Senior quarterback Matt Wallace threw for 66 yards, going 6-for-13 through the air.

The Longhorn defense allowed 231 yards rushing but only 64 yards passing.
