Thanks to Google, Yahoo! and hundreds of others, searching for data online has hardly been easier.

However, thanks to online search engine GoodSearch, raising funds for the Demopolis City School Foundation has never been easier.

The search engine donates 1-cent to the Foundation every time a search is executed, meaning the potential for fundraising is virtually limitless.

“We received our first check a while back for $7.32,” said Foundation Director Jan McDonald. “It may not be much, but it’s a lot more than nothing.”

Since january 2010, GoodSearch.com has only executed 228 Internet searches for the Foundation, which leaves McDonald optimistic about the site’s revenue driving potential.

“As far as I know, I’m the only one using it regularly,” she said, adding that GoodSearch has been bookmarked on her computer and is now her search engine of choice. “It’s search is powered by Yahoo!. It’s a good search engine.”

Upon first logging on to GoodSearch.com, you will need to input Demopolis City Schools Foundation in the blank titled “Who do you GoodSearch for?” and click verify.

“Once you’ve done that the first time, it saves it,” McDonald added, “and every time you search, the Foundation gets a penny.”

All searches will count toward donations except for the following: 1) image searches; 2) video searches; 3) “search this site” searches; 4) searches for URL’s (i.e., search terms ending in .com, .org, .net, .edu); 5) searches to sites for which the URL is well known such as HotMail, ESPN, MySpace, Facebook, GMail, AOL, etc.; 6) searches for stock quotes; 7) searches for word definitions; 8) Yellow Pages searches; 9) any searches generated from fraudulent use of the site.

In 2007, GoodSearch was expanded to include GoodShop, an online shopping mall of merchants dedicated to helping fund worthy causes across the country. Each purchase made via the GoodShop mall results in a donation to the user’s designated charity or school – averaging approximately 3 percent of the sale, but going up to 20 percent or even more.
