Gaineswood hosts Christmas in the Canebrake

On Friday, Dec. 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Gaineswood invites you to “step back in time” by visiting the National Historic Landmark during Christmas in the Canebrake. Co-hosted with the Marengo County Historical Society during Christmas on the River week, the evening features Demopolis’ three publicly-owned historic houses.

Gaineswood will be festively decorated for the holiday season and will sparkle by candlelight. Entertainment will be provided by the voice students of Laura Clements, who will perform throughout the evening. Guests will also be able to sample delicious refreshments.

Admission to each of the three historic houses is $4 per person, with ages 12 and under admitted free.

Those who cannot make it to the Candlelight Evening are encouraged to visit Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1 – 3 p.m. when the historic site will host open-house tours. Regular admission charges apply.

Gaineswood is a historic site of the Alabama Historical Commission. Located at 805 South Cedar Avenue in Demopolis, the house museum is a National Historic Landmark noted for its architecture and furnishings.
