Chris Landrum took home Most Valuable Player honors for the Bulldogs in the Class 1A state championship game. And the Auburn commit was certainly deserving after a strong all-around performance.

But if the Bulldogs are handing out Most Valuable Player honors for the 2010 season, they need to look no further than Devann White.

The senior linebacker was supposed to play Batman to Landrum’s Superman in 2010. The plan was for White to line up at outside linebacker right next to middle man Landrum.

But the ankle injury Landrum sustained in the first game of the season relegated him to a season of uncertainty and rehabilitation. That left Batman in charge on the Sweet Water defense.

White embraced that role with open arms, leading the Bulldogs in tackles while Landrum was recuperating.

But when Landrum returned, White did nothing to slow down after shifting back to the outside spot. And Friday against Hubbard in Jordan-Hare, it was White who once again led the game in tackles with 13 stops. What his football future holds has yet to be determined, but Devann White has unquestionably etched his name into Sweet Water lore.
