Stevie Henry Hampton passed away at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital peacefully on Friday, Dec. 10. Stevie was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Steele, Mo.

He resided in Gallion for the past 43 years. Stevie served in the Army during WWII and was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo.

Steve, as his family called him, was a retired machinist, welder and farmer. He built many types of farm equipment through out his life, such as: do-alls, spreaders, rollers, large truck beds for soybean transportation and cotton trailers were just a few of his accomplishments.

Steve also harvested grain crops for local farm owners. In his lifetime, he taught many men the skill of welding.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marie Matron Hampton, of Gallion; children, Laverne Smith, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., David Hampton, of Gallion, Jackie White, of Pensacola, Donna Strickland, of Tuscaloosa, Debbie Hampton, of Linden, Jeff Hampton, of Tuscalossa, Tina Lewis, of Selma and James Lewis, Jr., of Selma; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-greatgrandchildren; brother, Willie Hampton, of St. Louis; sisters, Dora Mae Hayes, of Kenneth, Mo. and Ethel Hudson, of Corning, Mo.

He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Hampton; granddaughter, Carena; parents, Jim James Hampton and Fannie Hampton; brothers, Joe Hampton, Jim Hampton, John Hampton; sisters, Cora Conley, Sally Pittman, Effie Anderson and Pauline Hampton.

A memorial service was held Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel with graveside services at Pineview Memory Gardens in Selma. Pastor Rob Wynne Officiated.
