Sarah Spidle Shumate Doyal, 81, of York passed away Dec. 17 at Sumter Nursing Home in York. Born Jan. 6, 1929 in Belmont to the late Wallace Pickens and Inell Mott Spidle, she is preceded in death by her parents and Sam Shumate. She is survived by her husband Drexal Ray Doyal, daughters Jo Ann S. Garrett (Al) of Demopolis, Shelia Shumate of Livingston, brother Wallace Spidle Jr. of Belmont, niece Cynthia H. Cooper (Danny) of Eutaw, nephews Wallace Spidle III of Orlando, Fla. and Steve Spidle of Belmont and great niece Courtney D. Cooper of Eutaw. Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at Old Belmont Church in Belmont. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Reverends Scott Jones and Carl Sudduth officiated and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directed. Pallbearers included Steve Spidle, Herbert L. Saelens, Dewayne Gandy, Kevin Gandy, Alan Gandy and Hunter Doyal. Honorary pallbearers included Dogwood Lane Staff of Sumter Health and Rehab and the members of the Belmont community. In lieu of flowers, the family ask memorials be made to the Belmont cemetery fund: 9870 Sumter 23, Livingston, AL 35470.
