Gertrude Shepard Bradford Sims

Gertrude Shepard Bradford Sims died Dec. 22.

She was the daughter of the late thomasene McCorkle and Robert Hardie Bradford of Uniontown.

Shepard spent the majority of her life on her beloved Faunsdale Plantation surrounded by her gardens and animals.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Archie Leonard Sims of Faunsdale, and three sons: Robert Bradford Sims, Philip Harrison Sims (Elizabeth) and Thomas Hardie Sims, as well as her two granddaughters Charlotte Dorothy Sims and Katherine Ann Sims, all of Birmingham. Shepard is also survived by her two sisters Louise Bradford Clayton (Charles) of Birmingham and Charlotte Bradford Byrd (Richard) of Faunsdale. Nieces include Thomasene Clayton Collins (Stephen), Elizabeth Clayton Yates (Dusty) and nephew Robert Fitzhugh Byrd.

The service was Monday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Uniontown where Shepard was a lifelong member, followed by burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery Faunsdale with Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing.

Active pallbearers included Brad Sims, Philip Sims, Hardie Sims, Bobby Byrd, Stephen Collins and Dusty Yates. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Church of The Holy Cross, 516 County Road 54, Faunsdale, AL 36738.
