The approximately 270 Soldiers of the Alabama National Guard’s 2101st Transportation Company will return to Demopolis, Thursday, Jan. 6, after a deployment to Iraq. Friends, family and community members will welcome the Soldiers home at the Demopolis High School Gym; 701 U.S. Highway 80 West. The unit is expected to arrive from their demobilization station around 10 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

While in Iraq the unit, led by Capt. Kelvin Perkins, was responsible for deliberate convoy logistical patrols which covered more than 4,455 miles.

The 2101st, formerly the 440th Ordnance Company, was deployed to the Middle East in the 1990s. This is the company’s second deployment in the current war, having provided transportation support for Operation Iraq freedom during 2004-2005.
