Day fit for a King

Monday is a day set aside to celebrate the birth and remember the efforts of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Given its position just after the holidays, the day is easily overshadowed and its purpose often forgotten.

But such should not be the case. What King did for what the Civil Rights movement was not about advancing one race in relation to another. It was about saving one race, the human one. His message was one of harmony, equality and peace.

It is a message we often take for granted. Monday is time to reflect, a time to assess and a time to continue moving forward.

No one since King’s death has made so profound an impact on man’s relationship to himself. Others have taken up his charge, but none have had so dynamic a voice or so clear a vision. Monday is a day dedicated to a man who is deserving, a leader whose dream lives on.
