Hundreds of local young people will have diamonds in their eyes soon as registration for Demopolis Dixie Youth Softball and Demopolis Youth Baseball has officially opened.

Registration forms for both leagues can be picked up at Omni Sports and Hibbett Sports. Dixie Youth Softball will divide players into five age groups, the Sweeties (6U), Darlings (8U), Angels (10U), Ponytails (12U) and Belles (15U).

The Sweeties, the league’s tee ball age group, holds a $45 registration fee. All other age groups hold a registration fee of $50 for the first child and $45 for each additional child. Fees for the softball league include a uniform consisting of a shirt, shorts and a visor.

Teams in the Sweeties division will be drafted March 5.

The other age groups will tryout at the Sports-Plex Saturday, March 5 beginning at 10 a.m. with the Darlings. The Angels will tryout at 11:30 a.m. with the Ponytails following at 1 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, tryouts and drafts will take place Monday, March 7 at 6 p.m. for the Darlings, Tuesday, March 8 for the Angels and Thursday, March 10 for the Ponytails.

The Demopolis Youth Baseball League will once again utilize Cal Ripken rules and has a due date of Feb. 18 for its registration forms. Registrations received after 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 will incur a $10 late fee.

The league is set up for children age four through 12 and requires each participant to attend tryouts at the Demopolis Sports-Plex.

The 11 and 12-year-old division will try out Saturday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Sports-Plex and will be represented by player agent Scott Parten.

The 9 and 10-year-olds will also tryout at 10 a.m. Saturday and will be represented by player agent Ronnie Cox.

The 7-year-olds will tryout at 1 p.m. with the 8-year-olds following at 2 p.m. Both age groups will be represented by Jeff Holley. No tryouts will be required for the 4, 5 and 6-year-old age groups. Those ages will be represented by Lee Pritchett. Makeup tryouts will be held Monday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.
