Drug dealers who made a New Year’s resolution to push more narcotics on the streets of Demopolis have found Tommie Reese and the Demopolis Police Department to be a tremendous road block.

From December 2010 through yesterday, the DPD has arrested more than 50 people for drug offenses.

“We ended January with 31 and we’re up to 53 as of (Tuesday),” Reese said of the department’s work on drug arrests.

Tuesday morning, the department put cases 46 through 53 on the books.

Officers arrested Anglo Gomez and Kenderick Montgomery, both for Possession of Marijuana, on Rainbow Circle.

Later yesterday morning Demopolis officers executed two additional search warrants on Carver Avenue and Symon Lane, where four more arrests were made.

On Carver Avenue, Russell McCray was charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Controlled Substance and Charles McCray was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

In the Symon Lane arrests, Lee Elliott, Jr. was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Lisa Ann Epstein was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Later Tuesday, Marti Marie Pearson, of Russell Drive, was arrested for Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

Reese added that additional arrests are likely.

“Drugs and the use of drugs not only destroy the user but the families and community”, Reese said. “Many think they have gotten by and away but they just don’t realize they have already been caught.”

Reese thanked the Narcotic Division, the Criminal Investigation Division and “each and every member of my staff for their hard work in making the City of Demopolis a better place,” he said before his mantra for drug dealers who remain in the community.

“Today could be your day.”
