Demopolis (2-2) delighted fans in its home opener Wednesday, trouncing Hale County 11-3.

The Lady Tigers scored one run in each of the first and second innings but did most of its damage in the third when it put together a seven-run rally.

The big blow of the frame came when Zoe Lewis blasted a triple to plate three runs and push the lead to 5-0.

“Big, clutch hit by Zoe,” Demopolis coach Todd Mathis said. “The bases were loaded and she cleared them.”

Demopolis added two more runs in the fifth to back up the stellar outing by pitcher Madison Laduron.

The junior pitched around a fourth inning setback, her lone rough patch, to anchor the Lady Tigers’ effort.

“She did a good job,” Mathis said. “She had one little inning where she got loose, but other than that, she did a great job.

“She had great command of her pitches. That’s what she is going to have to have.”

Laduron worked all seven innings for the Lady Tigers, allowing four hits and walking two while striking out 12 batters, one off her career high set during her 2009 freshman season.

Laduron also walked in all three of her plate appearances, giving way to courtesy runner Victoria Webb each time. Webb scored three runs in the game.

Freshman Riley King went 2-for-3 with an RBI, accounting for two of the Lady Tigers’ three hits in the contest.

Victoria Washburn walked twice and scored a run.

Sydney Colyer walked one and scored.

Olivia Brame drew a walk, was struck by a pitch and scored two runs.

Meredith Mackin was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

“We’re still not set in stone where we’re at,” Mathis said of the lineup he utilized Wednesday.

“I know I’ve got some girls that can swing the bat that may not be there right now.”

The Lady Tigers play again Saturday at Thomasville.
