The Demopolis High School softball team continued to build on its success Saturday, going 2-2 on the day while finishing in second place at a tournament in Thomasville.

Demopolis (4-4) opened the day with a 3-1 win over host Thomasville.

Madison Laduron worked six innings, striking out six, walking none, allowing four hits and one earned run.

Kristin Beach went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Laduron went 1-for-2 with a walk, giving way twice to courtesy runner Victoria Webb, who scored once and stole a base. Raylee Eubanks went 1-for-3. Riley King was 1-for-2 with an RBI, allowing courtesy runner Maria Brooker the opportunity to score a run.

Sidney Colyer was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Madison Bozeman had an RBI in the game.

The Lady Tigers’ second game of the day resulted in a 1-0 loss to Excel. Freshman Meredith Mackin worked five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three while allowing no runs.

Beach went 1-for-3 in the game while Victoria Washburn was 1-for-2.

The third game of the day for Demopolis saw the Blue and Black Attack trounce Monroe County 14-0.

Laduron worked three innings, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced. Zoe Lewis followed up with an inning of work and two strikeouts.

Washburn went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored. Brooker went 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Beach had a walk and a run scored. Lewis went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, a run scored and a walk. Eubanks was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks.

King went 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Washburn walked and scored a run. Olivia Brame had a walk and scored a run.

Danielle Tatum walked and scored. Bozeman walked and scored a pair of runs while Alexis Jones went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The final game of the day saw Demopolis fall 2-0 to tournament champion Excel.

Laduron worked six innings, walking one and scattering six hits while striking out nine and allowing two earned runs.

Beach went 1-for-4 with a double. Eubanks was 1-for-2. Hale went 2-for-3 with a double. Colyer was 1-for-3.

“We hit the ball much better in the this game against the same pitcher we saw in the first game,” Demopolis coach Todd Mathis said.

“But the hits never came at the right time.”

Demopolis plays again this weekend when it goes to Gulf Shores for a tournament.
