George Dewey Kemp Jr.

George Dewey Kemp Jr., 72 of Gallion, passed away March 7 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Born Sept. 28, 1938 in Kinard, Fla. to the late Lula Belle and George Dewey Kemp, he was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn L. Kemp, daughters Terry Poole and Angie Poole and sister Hellen Clements.

He is survived by his daughters Sinda Fendley (Nick) of Gallion and Selena Sickler of Tallahassee, Fla., sons Josh Poole of Charleston, S.C. and Perry Kemp (Coleen) of Boynton Beach, Fla, and Jacky Poole (Pam) of Demopolis, sisters Bernice Fortner of Wewa, Fla., Juanita “Ouida” Cross of Port Saint Joe, Fla. and Ida Belle Lindsey (Lewis) of Port Saint Joe, Fla. as well as eight grandchildren, Madison Poole, Justin Sickler, Alex Poole, Michael Sickler, Caroline Poole, Meaghan Kemp, Keira Fendley and Kemper Fendley.

Funeral services are shceduled for Friday, March 11 at 1 p.m. at Gallion Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Hopper, Rev. Hank Atchison and Pastor Richard Scott officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. The family will have a private committal service for Mr. Kemp in his hometown cemetery of Wewa, Fla. by his mother and father at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Care Center of Demopolis, care of the Angel Fund, P.O. Box 890, Demopolis, AL 36732.

Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Shelby Sanford, Dr. Charles Gross, the nurses and staff of the Cancer Care Center (SPN) of Demopolis, Drs. Dismukes and Ketcham and staff, friends and neighbors of the Gallion Community, Southern Care Hospice and, of course, his Domino Buddies.
