William Thorpe, 82, of Linden died Thursday, March 17 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. He was born Sept. 21, 1928 in Lowell, Mich. He was a retired equipment operator and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his son Scott Lee Thorpe of Gallion, daughters Linda Hall of Prattville, Susan Williams of Pine Mills, Texas and Lisa Phenis of Jemison, sisters Sandra Webb of Holland, Mich. and Mary Lou Thorpe of Arizona, grandchildren Mitchell Allen of Pine Hill, Michael Sullivan of Prattville, Amanda Jean Wilson of Greensboro, Brook Payne of Apollo Beach, Fla., Katie Lynn Payne of Fort Riley, Kan., Jamie Lynn Hall of Prattville, Jessica Phenis of Memphis, Tenn. and Cody Phenis of Memphis, Tenn. and great grandchildren Hunter, Kassidy, McKenzie, Carter, Nathaniel, Holden, Noah, Sumerlin, Karlei-Rai, Tristin and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his wife Zelma Thorpe and great grandchild Kymberlee Wilson.

Memorial services were held at the Graveside of Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Mickey Green officiating. Military honors were provided by the U.S. Navy.
