Franks to open Exhibit Sunday

Nedra Franks will be the featured artist when Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital opens its Spring art exhibit this Sunday.

Nedra Franks will be the featured artist when Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital opens its Spring art exhibit this Sunday.

A native of Tuscaloosa, Franks said she developed a passion for creativity at an early age. Franks studied Interior Design at the University of Alabama and entered the labor force in furniture retail and decorating.

“I have always been an artist,” she said. “(I love) the excitement I receive of being free to create anything I wanted.”

Bold textures and rich colors are signatures in a variety of subjects and mixed media. Franks is also quick to introduced recycled materials into her works – a practice she has dubbed recycled art. Franks will have 25 pieces on display at the hospital for the next three months, which span a nearly 20 year painting career.

“I’ve brought a variety of subjects,” she said. “I like all kinds of art. I have an eclectic style.”

The Exhibit opens April 3 with a reception at 1:30 in the hospital’s main hall.
