LINDEN — Marengo Academy Lady Longhorns (14-2) continued its winning ways Thursday, getting a combined no-hitter out of Jessica Brock and Ally Vick while downing Patrician Academy 8-0.

“We ride the pitchers a lot,” Marengo Academy head coach Danny Stenz said. “I’ll put our pitchers against anybody.”

Brock started the game, striking out seven batters and walking one over three innings of work.

With the Lady Longhorns up 8-0 after three, Brock turned the pitching duties over to Vick. The sophomore tossed the final four frames, striking out five batters and hitting one over the duration of the game.

“We tried to get her a little bit of work,” Stenz said of Vick, who has been used sparingly this season due largely to the success Brock has found in the circle. “She did well.”

The Lady Longhorns hung four runs on the board in the first inning and two in each of the second and third frames.

Destiny Huckabee was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the first inning. Chandler Stenz went 1-for-4 with a run. Katie Tucker was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brock went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Jaime Johnson went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Nicole Langley went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Reesa Holifield went 1-for-1 with two RBIs before leaving the game with a minor injury.

Brooke Smyly took over the catching duties, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Vick ended her day at the dish going 1-for-3.

“Up until the Macon East tournament, we hadn’t really hit the ball like we could,” Danny Stenz said. “We finally stung the ball. Our hitting is coming along.”

The Lady Longhorns have also found consistency in the field, a prospect that will help considerably as they ready for the stretch run.

“Other than the Kingwood game, we haven’t made a lot of errors,” Stenz pointed out.

MA is competing this weekend at the AISA Showcase at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, a 12-team draw that will pit them against some of the best teams in the state.
