DHS softball now 28-8

Demopolis (28-8) dispatched of Wilcox-Central quickly Tuesday, putting together a 16-0 win in two and a half innings of play.

The Lady Tigers opened by scoring five runs in the first inning before hanging 11 more on the board in the second.

The offensive output was more than enough to back up the effort of Zoe Lewis, who pitched three innings for the win.

Lewis faced 10 batters, surrendered one hit and struck out eight in the contest.

The sophomore also helped herself offensively, walking once, picking up an RBI and scoring twice in the game.

Kristin Beach went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Alex Crawford went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

Madison Laduron walked twice and scored two runs.

Baliegh Grace walked and scored a run.

Raylee Eubanks went 1-for-1 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Sierra Chapman walked once.

Donelle Hale went 1-for-1 with a walk, a run and two RBIs.

Sydney Colyar walked twice, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Olivia Brame went 1-for-1 with a walk and two RBIs.

Meredith Mackin went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The win followed a Monday loss at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa that snapped a 16-game winning streak.

In that contest, Laduron (23-6) worked all six innings. Beach went 1-for-2 with a walk in the game. Crawford was 1-for-3.

Lewis went 1-for-3. Madison Bozeman finished 1-for-2.

“They started out a little flat. We had a couple errors.

“We made one big blunder on the basepaths,” Demopolis head coach Todd Mathis said of his team’s struggles Monday. “We’ve got to find the bats that we like in the lineup and still have a decent defense. Even though we lost Monday, I feel good about where they are mentally.”

Demopolis also played two games Saturday in a round robin at Thomasville.

The first game of the day saw Demopolis defeat host Thomasville 7-4.

Laduron pitched five innings, allowed one hit and no runs while walking two and striking out six.

Mackin closed out the game, working two innings in relief.

Beach went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Laduron was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Mackin scored a pair of runs. Eubanks went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Lewis went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Colyar went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Aleix Jones went 1-for-3.

Demopolis went on to beat Foley 3-0 in its final game of the day.
