Demopolis City Schools campuses were evacuated for approximately 10 minutes Tuesday as police department officers performed a walkthrough following a bomb threat that was called in at approximately 12:15 p.m.

“The call came in to 9-1-1,” Demopolis Police Department Chief Tommie Reese said of the call.

The caller was reportedly unspecific about where the alleged bomb may be located, prompting the DPD to evacuate all four campuses.

“They came out to the schools and told us,” DCS Federal Programs Coordinator Gina Johnston said of the incident. Johnston spoke on behalf of the school system in the absence of DCS Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin, who was out of the town Tuesday.

“When the children are evacuated, that’s when the police go out and do a walkthrough,” Johnston said. “Once the police did their walkthrough and everything was cleared, the students were sent immediately back to class.”

Reese said his department is currently investigating the call.
