The greatest success in any field is rarely achieved. But when it is, honoring the individual in his or her hometown is a no-brainer.

That is exactly what the Demopolis City Council did Thursday when it voted to honor Buzz Sawyer by renaming the Demopolis Municipal Airport the Julian D. “Buzz” Sawyer Airport.

Sawyer is a humble man. It is difficult to get him to talk too much about his personal accomplishments. Fortunately for those who know him and for those down the line who never will have that opportunity, Sawyer’s accolades and accomplishments are enshrined in both the Alabama Military Hall of Fame and the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame.

Now, his namesake will be forever synonymous with the area of life he has loved in the area of the world where he has worked hardest to advance it.

Congratulations go out to Buzz Sawyer along with a considerable dose of gratitude for his service.
