According to storm spotters, Marengo County came through Wednesday night’s statewide tornado outbreak with one tornado touching down.

Storm spotters described the tornado as “small”, touching down about 6 miles north of Linden and traveling across Highway 43.

Most damage was isolated to downed trees and property as the system tracked South of Gallion and into Faunsdale. Three injuries were reported in Faunsdale and the most significant damage is also found along County Road 54 toward and through Faunsdale.

“It’s going to be long,” Kevin McKinney, Director of the Marengo County Emergency Management Agency said of the damage path. “(From near Linden to Faunsdale) looks like it was all part of that system. (The damage path) will be several miles.”

Statewide, more than 200 deaths have been confirmed as storm related. This morning, President Barack Obama declared a State of Emergency for Alabama.

Assessment teams with the National Weather Service have dispatched three teams to Marion, Walker, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson and Bibb counties. Plans to send a team to Marengo County have not been finalized.
