Rex Doyal, 84, went home to be with the Lord from his home in Belmont on April 22,. Rex met and married Doris Autrey in 1944 in Chula Vista, Calif. They were married for 51 years until Doris passed away in 1998. Rex married Sarah Spidle Shumate and was married for 12 years. Rex was born in Centertown, Ky. When Rex heard Pearl Harbor had been bombed, he left the farm and stood in line to join the Navy. He served his country on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific during World War II. He was a Birmingham firefighter for 29 years and a homebuilder for over 40 years. Rex served as president of Beasley Hunting Club, where he was a member for 51 years. He was an active member of Old Belmont Church in Belmont. The funeral service was held at Old Belmont Church Tuesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Surivors are son Tommy Doyal, wife Karen Doyal of Pelham and daughter Janet (Henry) Capillary of Carolina Beach, n.C. along with six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
