The Marengo County Auburn Club will host Auburn University cornerbacks coach Phillip Lolley Tuesday, May 10 at the Demopolis Country Club.

Lolley is in his second season as a DB coach under Auburn’s Gene Chizik. He previously worked in the secondary under Tommy Tuberville. His career also features 22 years of service as a high school coach. A Butler native, he worked at three schools, including North Jackson High. He led NJHS to a 4A state title in 1993.

A graduate of Livingston University, Lolley began his coaching career at South Choctaw Academy in 1977 before taking over as head coach at Warrior in 1978. He spent three seasons as defensive coordinator of Demopolis High School from 1982-1984 and later served as head coach at Stevenson High School.

The event will serve as a fundraiser with all proceeds going into a scholarship fund for local students.

“We’re in the process of funding an endowed scholarship,” Marengo County Auburn Club president Sean Parker said. “That is going to be a $25,000 scholarship. We’ve got to raise $12,500 of that.”

The club has five years to raise $12,500 for the fund, which will then be matched by the university.

“This banquet is our main fundraiser,” Parker said. “We’re well on our way. At least, I hope we are.”

The event is the second of its kind for the club, which drew more than 100 attendees for its 2010 banquet with former Auburn athletic director David Housel.

“Last year we had over 100 people come to see David Housel,” Paker said. “That was way more than we expected. The reason we were able to have a football coach come is because we drew over 100 people last year.”

A social will begin at 6 p.m. with the banquet set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The event features dinner with a cash bar.

Tickets may be purchased at Robertson Bank Main Office, Holiday Cleaners in Demopolis or Papa’s Foods in Linden.

“It’s not an Auburn alumni deal,” Parker said. “It’s a fundraising arm that will help students in the county for years to come go over to Auburn and continue their education.”
