Emilie Simmons Hagood passed away May 6 at her home on Ono Island in Orange Beach. Her daughters were by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) James Hagood; her parents, Lewis and Justina Cocke Simmons and her sister, Justina Simmons.

Emilie was born and reared in Jefferson. She graduated from Demopolis High School and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She and her family lived all over the world but she always cherished and remained faithful to her southern roots.

She is survived by her daughters, Justina Smith and Lillian Richardson (Gordon), both of Raleigh, N.C., and her six grandchildren; Nicholas Smith, James Smith, Justina Smith, Gordon Richardson III, James Richardson and Emma Richardson.

Services will be held May 13 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis with a graveside service immediately following at Jefferson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall.
