TROY — Demopolis overcame a rain delay of more than four hours to beat Pleasant Grove 2-0 in round one of the Class 5A South Central Regional Friday.

The Lady Tigers got a strong performance out of pitcher Madison Laduron to counter an impressive outing by Pleasant Grove’s Kendyl Shelton.

Laduron worked the full seven innings, striking out five and scattering three hits for the victory. Laduron carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Rachel Ragland and Amanda Wood put together back-to-back singles to mount the biggest Pleasant Grove threat of the night. Laduron then induced a fly ball into the gap that Alex Crawford reeled in for the second out before getting a nice catch out of Raylee Eubanks for the second out of the inning.

Eubanks also came up big at the plate, ripping an RBI double to score Kristin Beach in the first inning on a ball that nearly found its way out of the park.

Demopolis added its second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Olivia Brame drew a two-out walk to send home Meredith Mackin, who was running for Donnelle Hale after a walk.

Shelton struck out eight Demopolis batters in the loss.

Demopolis will play again at 8 a.m. against Chelsea.
