Among the many complications caused by the April 27 tornado outbreak was the postponing of the Marengo Historical Society’s Spring Pilgrimage.

The event, originally set for April 30, was postponed after a tornado tore through parts of Faunsdale less than 72 hours before the event was set to kick off.

“None of the actual sites were damaged,” event organizer Kirk Brooker said, “but a lot of the roads to the sites were blocked and some of the people along the trail had family in Tuscaloosa. Obviously, they needed to tend to that first.”

The Marengo County Historical Society celebrates its 2011 Spring Pilgrimage featuring homes and churches in the Canebrake area of Marengo County.

Pilgrimage doors swing open for guests on Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. Sites featured in the Gallion, Alabama area include Battersea c.1820 , home of Cyd & Mark Boland; and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church c.1853. Faunsdale, Alabama area sites include Mckee House c.1918, home of Nancy & George McKee; Faunsdale jail c. 1907; Faunsdale Presbyterian Church c.1887; First Baptist Church of Faunsdale c.1889; St. Michael’s Episcopal Church c.1932; Roseland Plantation c.1830, owned by the Gaines family; and Paulling Place, home of Bradley Hale.

Another slight change from the group’s original plan is that there will be no Pilgrimage on Sunday. This year’s will be a Saturday-only event.

Sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person, and $10 for children under 12 and are available before and during the event at the Canebrake Craft Corner at Bluff Hall, 407 North Commissioners Ave. or by calling 334-289-9644. A map of pilgrimage sites is provided with each ticket.

Tickets are also available at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Gallion the weekend of the Pilgrimage.
