TROY — Demopolis (38-9) was out of sorts from the outset Saturday morning en route to a 4-0 loss to Chelsea that sent the Lady Tigers to the losers bracket.

Chelsea scored a run in the home half of the first inning when Morgan Pence singled in Allie Luster.

Chelsea added its second run in the third inning when a dropped fly ball with two outs allowed Luster to score from second base. Demopolis repeated its mistake in the fourth inning when Carley Toretta scored from second on a dropped pop up with two outs to push the Chelsea advantage to 3-0. Chelsea’s Amanda Mock stroked a lead off home run in the sixth to wrap up the scoring.

Demopolis got the leadoff runners aboard in the second, third, fourth and seventh innings but failed to make anything of the opportunities.

Demopolis avoided further damage in the second inning when Alex Crawford picked up a Caitlyn Bice single and fired the ball into shortstop Raylee Eubanks, whose relay throw retired Courtney Campbell at the plate for the final out of the inning.

Demopolis duplicated the magic in the third inning when Madison Bozeman picked up a Kacie Craft single and quickly hit Eubanks, who gunned down Pence at home for the final out of the frame. Demopolis recorded another out at home in the fourth inning when catcher Alexis Jones scrambled for a passed ball and flipped it to pitcher Madison Laduron, who applied the tag to Mock to save another run.

Bice struck out eight Demopolis batters and walked four over seven innings while allowing just one hit — a fourth inning, two-out double to Sydney Colyar.

Demopolis will play Brookwood at 12:30 in the losers bracket of the Class 5A South Central Regional. Brookwood lost to Shelby County Friday for its first loss.

Six teams remain in the double-elimination tournament with Greenville and Chilton County the only schools eliminated thus far.
