Jewel Elizabeth “Bettie” Duke Franklin

Jewel Elizabeth “Bettie” Duke Franklin, 76, died Friday, June 3 at Perry County Nursing Home in Marion. Born July 29, 1934 in Gallion to the late Eugene Charlie and Jewel McClinton, she was preceded in death by her husband John Lester Franklin of Birmingham as well as her aunt Elizabeth Singley, son John Brantley Franklin and daughter, Betty Fran “Bitsy” Franklin.

She went to grammar and high school in Demopolis and completed the three-year RN program at St. Vincent in Birmingham, becoming the third generation in her family to complete the program.

Her nursing career took her to Spokane, Wash., Savannah, Ga. and Birmingham before she moved back to Greensboro. Locally, she worked at the nursing home and hospital in Greensboro. She then came to Marion to be the Director of Nursing for Southland, N.H. as well as Perry County Nursing Home.

She is survived by her grandchildren Amy Elizabeth Minor, Tasha Morgan, Nicky Minor and Haley Elizabeth Minor as well as great grandchildren Ava Morgan, Hunter Morgan and Nicholas Minor. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.
