Player of the Week: Brett Davis

Former Sweet Water standout Tate Luker put it best.
“He is a winner,” Luker said just moments after Brett Davis made arguably the play of Sweet Water’s season in last week’s third round playoff matchup with Pickens County.
With Sweet Water up 31-29, Pickens County’s quarterback shook a pair of would-be sacks, darted for the line of scrimmage amid a handful of grounded Bulldog defenders and rifled the ball to a wide open receiver.
With just over two minutes to go and the Tornadoes riding all the momentum, Davis bolted up from his position deep in the secondary, closed in on the Pickens receiver, managed to get one arm in between the ball and its intended target and snagged a one-handed interception at the PCHS 29 yard line.
Two plays later, Davis pulled the ball back on a fake handoff and swung around the left side for a 26-yard touchdown run, his second score of the night.
He later iced the contest with a run in which he gained 26 yards after contact all while pushing a pile of defenders for the win.
Tate Luker had it absolutely right. That kid is a winner.
