LIVINGSTON – The University of West Alabama Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Nick McCurdy as the baseball program’s pitching coach. McCurdy replaces Eric Dubose, who spent the 2012 season with the Tigers.

Monday’s hiring is a homecoming of sorts for the Thomasville native who grew up close to UWA before playing junior college baseball at Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton. McCurdy then transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he pitched for the Cowboys for two seasons from 2001-02.

After his stint at OSU, McCurdy went on to play in the Baltimore Orioles organization for seven seasons, before a two-year stint with the Florida Marlins organization.

“We feel like Nick will be a huge asset to our program,” UWA Head Coach Gary Rundles stated. “He pitched nine years in minor league baseball after playing for one of the top programs in the country at Oklahoma State. I think all the experience and knowledge he has gathered will help him be a good college coach and a great fit for us.”

McCurdy comes to UWA after serving as a student assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2012 season. Other coaching experiences include a one-year stint as a pitching coach for the Amsterdam Mohawks and a stop at Marshall University, where he was a volunteer assistant coach.

McCurdy graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in sociology in May of this year.
