The Salvation Army on Highway 80 East gets new sign and prepares for $5 bag sale on Sept. 1.

The Salvation Army located on Highway 80 East received a personal donation, which funded their new sign that was placed two weeks ago.

“The new sign reads larger, and we have been trying for four years to get something new put up,” Store Manager Joyce Baty said.

Customers that come in for the twice a year paper bag sale this Saturday, Sept. 1 will be able to enjoy the new sign.

Vowell’s donated paper bags to the store to host their sale, which will give customers the opportunity to fill a grocery store paper bag to the brim with clothing for only $5.

“The sale is always well attended,” she said. “ The last time we sold 109 bags.”

Baty said they typically have the sale twice a year to make room for the upcoming season’s clothing. The store has one at the end of the summer to make room for winter clothing and has one in the spring to make room for summer clothing.

The sale always has some form of focus, this time Baty said it will serve as “a way to say thanks to the customers and donors in the area.”

Baty has been volunteering at The Salvation Army for the past 14 years and currently serves as the manager for the store.
