The Demopolis Pilot Club will celebrate its 65th anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the First Baptist Church from 6-7:30 p.m.
Pilots International was founded in 1921 in Macon, Ga. The name “Pilot” means “leader and guide.”
Pilot Club service projects and fundraisers are meant to benefit their local communities, and their signature project is “Protecting your Brain for Life.”
The club’s service projects bring awareness to brain-related disorders and disabilities.
Irma Parr, Demopolis Pilot Club member since 1947, said the group had been involved in everything that has happened in Demopolis the past 65 years.
“We have done so much over the years,” she said. “If there was an event happening in Demopolis, we were there. We had a float in the first Christmas on the River parade.”
Parr served as president of the Pilot Club from 1957-1958 and 1968-1969.
RSVP for the anniversary celebration to Anne Cross, current president of the Demopolis Pilot Club, at 256-506-2016, or by email at crossaf@yahoo.com.
