The Demopolis Tigers came out in Friday’s game against Citronelle firing on all cylinders. Citronelle, on the other hand, never got the ignition fired, losing the game 41-0.

On the first play from scrimmage, Citronelle fumbled and Demopolis recovered on the Citronelle 12 yard line. Three plays later, Tucker Jones ran for a one yard touchdown.

After a quick three-and-out, Jones threw for a 43-yard touchdown to Cortez Lewis to make the score 14-0.

On the next Demopolis drive, with 1:49 left in the first quarter, Jones and Lewis hooked up again on a 15-yard touchdown pass.

In the second quarter, Demopolis added to the already large lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Rodney Harper. Then with 3:51 to go in the quarter, after a 25-yard Jones run was called back on an illegal block penalty, Roderick Davis ran for a 30-yard touchdown to make the score 34-0 after the missed extra point.

The second half was not quite as exciting. The only scoring took place with under three minutes to go when freshman Andrew Jones ran in a four-yard touchdown after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on Citronelle after they fumbled a punt recovery.

Demopolis head coach Tom Causey was not very pleased with his team’s performance in the second half.

“In the first half, we came out and did what we needed to do and played with a lot of intensity,” he said, “but we came out flat in the second half. We will work on that next week, I promise you. To be a good football team, we have to play 48 minutes, not just 24.”

Demopolis outgained Citronelle 394 yards to 70 yards, and held the Wildcats to just 19 yards on the ground.

Davis finished the game with 26 rushes for 217 yards and a touchdown, and Peyton Pearson led the Tigers on defense with four solo tackles, one assist and two fumble recoveries.
