Raffle raises money for DPD

Several local business joined with the Demopolis Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association to to raise funds for the Demopolis Police Department.

The associated raffled off several items during Christmas on the River. The items were donated by local businesses and included things like gift certificates, a Regions bike and an Alabama bean bag chair.

President of the Alumni Association Melanie Soronen said each year they ask area businesses to donate items to the raffle.

There were 56 winners and the club raised $621 for the Demopolis Police Department.

The association seeks to support the police department by raising funds throughout the year. Later, this month, they will present a check to the department for the total amount raised throughout the year.

“Last year they purchased a projector and screen that is used in the training room,” she said. “The Citizen’s Police Academy classes also get to utilize this too since the classes are in the training room.”

Businesses and organizations that donated include: Amanda’s Restaurant, Batter UP, Colony Office Supply, CVS, Demopolis Fitness Club, Dollar General, Duckett Fishing, Fusion’s Sports Bar, Goody’s, Guys & Dolls, Hair Hut, Hair Razors-Ozzy Reynolds, Hair Razors-Tracey Vickery, Hair Razors-Dana Edwards, Hall’s Catfish, King’s Walker Enterprises, Larry Walter’s Furniture, Las Fuentas, Lily White Cleaners, Lindsey’s, Lowe’s Jewelry, Malone’s Texaco, Marengo Café, Marengo Theater, Newton’s Tire, Parr’s, Pizza Hut, Radio Shack, Red Barn, Reggie’s Salon, Region’s, Ross Martial Arts, Smoking Jack’s, Sonic, South’s Finest Meat, Spiller Furniture, Sweet Boutiques, The Gold Mine, The Perfect Touch, Tootsie’s, Theo Ratliff Center, Wellness Center, Windham Motors, Athlete Foot, Sweetwater Special Needs Kids and Touch Of Class.
