More than 20 volunteers from across the community read to students at Westside Elementary on Friday morning as part of Read Across America Day.

The annual event coincides with Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which is March 2. The day’s events were hosted by the Demopolis City Schools Foundation.

Business leaders, politicians and community philanthropists read to kindergarten, first and second grade classes. In addition, some parents and grandparents also read to students.
