Demopolis native takes command of Army recruiting company

Capt. Major Walker III, formerly of Demopolis, assumed command of the U.S. Army Joplin Recruiting Company on Wednesday, May 15.

Capt. Major Walker III returns the guidon to 1st Sgt. Jefferson Paul, signifying a change in leadership. The ceremony took place at Cunningham Park in Joplin, Mo.

Walker has served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He is married to Taiwana Walker and they have four children. He is a 1998 graduate of Demopolis High School and a 2003 graduate of Alabama A&M University. He is the son of Major II and Geraldine Walker of Demopolis.

Before Joplin, Mo., Walker’s previous duty stations were Korea; Fort Meade, Md.; Decatur, Ga.; and Fort Stewart, Ga.
