Two judges from America In Bloom were in Demopolis Thursday and Friday, June 20-21, touring the city to see everything it has to offer.

James Abraham and Ed Hooker saw the best Demopolis has to offer in the Kingfisher Marina, the city landing, Bluff Hall, City Hall, Rooster Hall, Foscue Park, Lower Pool Park, the SportsPlex, Cemex and several other prominent places in and around town.

Abraham was complimentary of Demopolis and how cooperative the city is with its different departments.

“The thing that stands out the most is the tremendous amount of cooperation between the government and private sectors, and well as intra-governmental cooperation,” Abraham said. “I’ve been so impressed so see all of that.”

Hooker echoed Abraham’s feelings, saying he felt the city does a great job bringing the community together.

“They hospitality has been great,” he said. “Everyone has really rolled out the red carpet for us since we’ve been here.”

Abraham said one thing he was concerned with was strengthening the historic preservation commission.

“The commission should protect the quality of the historic district,” he said. “We recommend they create a set of guidelines to help with the restoration and preservation of the district.”
