The Braxton Senior Adult Daycare will host its 16th annual gala at Rooster Hall on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.

The gala is held each year for Annye Braxton, the center’s director, to show her appreciation for her clients at the center. The center opened in 1995, and the gala has been held since 1997.

Artisha Foster Moore will speak at the Braxton Senior Center gala on Saturday a 7 p.m. at Rooster Hall.

Braxton opened the adult daycare after her mother fought to come back from a non-malignant brain tumor. The doctor advised the family to not allow her mother to live alone, so she began to attend a senior daycare center in Birmingham. Braxton said it gave her mother a sense of independence and companionship.

Through that experience, it inspired her to open Braxton Senior Adult Daycare here in Demopolis.

Speaking at the gala this year will be Artisha Foster Moore, program manager with UAB. Her work at UAB is primarily focused in the Alabama Black Belt and Mississippi Delta, but she also oversees many statewide projects in Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee.
