In a game that would determine the Class 2A, Region 1 championship, the Sweet Water Bulldogs jumped all over Mobile Christian for a 47-21 win.

The Bulldogs came out fast in the first quarter, scoring 27 points before the end of the quarter. Before Mobile Christian got their legs under them, they were already down multiple touchdowns.

“This was a good win for us,” Sweet Water head coach Stacy Luker said. “We wrapped up the region and home field advantage for a couple rounds. We’re still flying under the radar, and that’s fine, but if we can stay healthy, this is the type of team that can make a run.”

Sweet Water wasted no time getting the points back, as Daniel Sewell returned the kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. Weatherly missed the PAT, so the Bulldogs led 20-7.

McIntosh came up with an interception of a Jordan Aubrey pass on the next Mobile Christian drive to set Sweet Water up with a short field once again – this time from the 30 yard line.

Demarcus Gamble finished off the Sweet Water drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 27-7 lead with 1:40 to play in the first quarter.

Sweet Water’s defense forced a punt on the next Mobile Christian drive, and the Bulldogs put together a nearly six-minute, 73-yard drive that ended in a 20-yard touchdown run for Gamble. That was the last score of the half, and Sweet Water led 34-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room ready to play once again, and Aldridge took the first handoff of the drive 78 yards for a touchdown to put his team on top 40-7.

The Bulldogs came out and got the points back, though, as Aldridge broke a 29-yard run for a touchdown for Sweet Water’s final score of the night, putting them on top 47-14 with 5:40 to play in the third quarter.

Later in the third, Aubrey connected with Richard Wasden for the final score of the game, making the score 47-21.

“We forced some turnovers early that put us on top, and we kept playing,” Luker said. “We didn’t slow down.”
