DMS students awarded with Hawaii Five-0 celebration

Demopolis Middle School students were recognized at the school's Hawaii 5-0 event for perfect attendance and no disciplinary problems in the first 50 days of school.

Demopolis Middle School students with perfect attendance or no disciplinary problems in the first 50 days of school were recognized at the school’s Hawaii Five-0 event Thursday.

Demopolis Middle School held their annual Hawaii Five-0 celebration Thursday at the Demopolis Civic Center.

This year, 498 students were qualified to attend the event by having perfect attendance or no disciplinary issues in the first 50 days of school.

“We want to recognize kids for doing the right thing,” DMS Principal Blaine Hathcock said. “We added in students that haven’t had detention or any other discipline issues this year to reward them for doing the right thing. We want to give them that positive reinforcement so they continue to want to do the right things.”

At the event, there was music, games and snacks for the students to participate in and enjoy.

The sixth and seventh-grade students attended the event during the morning, and eighth-graders attended the event in the afternoon.
