Chamber hires new executive director

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director.

Michael David Kennedy will start with the Chamber on Monday.

Kennedy comes to Demopolis from Monroe, La., where he worked as a sales and service consultant with The Aspire Group that does work with the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

“I’m really excited to get started and work with the Demopolis community to make it all that it can be,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy has a bachelor of arts in psychology from Auburn University and a master of science in sports management from the University of Alabama.

He is engaged to Demopolis native Hannah Stephens. They plan to marry in May 2014.

“We see Michael bringing a fresh new energy to the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Chamber President Elizabeth “Buffy” Etheridge. “We have high expectations of him related to maintaining and renewing our memberships along with working closely with the mayor and Demopolis Area Business Council to promote Demopolis tourism and economic growth.”

The Chamber has also hired Mallie Ayres Quarles as an office manager.

She comes to the Chamber from Always Home. She is a graduate of Demopolis Academy.
