The Demopolis High School golf team moved to 14-0 with wins in two recent matches.

On Saturday, March 15, Demopolis hosted Fayette County, Thomasville and West Blocton at The Ravine and shot a 153 total team score to win the match. This was only 10 strokes better than Fayette County, which is the closest margin of victory for Demopolis this season.

Blake Bryant was the low medalist in the match with a 37, followed by Jordan Williams and Braden Spiller who both shot a 38. Chandler Steudeman and Sam Yeager both shot 40s, while Mark Joseph Johnson shot a 41, Anna Reid shot a 43 and Jonah Webb shot a 45.

On Tuesday, the Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa to face Brookwood at the Tuscaloosa Country Club. This was the first time Demopolis had played this course, and head coach Mike Black said it was tough for his team.

“We had never played the course prior to the match and struggled with the narrow fairways and small greens,” he said. “The scores were indicative of the toughness of the course.”

The Tigers shot a 168 in the match, their highest of the season, but still came away with a win as Brookwood shot a 182.

Williams was the low medalist in the match with a score of 40. Spiller shot a 41, Bryant shot a 43, Yeager shot a 44, Reid shot a 45, Johnson shot a 46, Steudeman shot a 47 and Webb shot a 49 to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

Black said Brookwood played Demopolis close until the end when the Tigers were able to make some clutch putts to put the match away.

Demopolis will travel to Thomasville on Thursday for their final match before spring break.

The Tigers are also sponsoring a tournament on April 5 at The Ravine. It is a two-man scramble with $300 first place, $200 second place and $100 third place. The tournament is a fundraiser for the golf program.

Entry fees for the tournament are $50 per person or $100 per team. There will be a meal after the match. Sponsorship is $100 for a hole for any business wanting to support the team. They will visit businesses in Demopolis and surrounding areas trying to help support their efforts.
