Virginia Skinner Jordan, 80, of Thomaston, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 19.

Born in Half Acre, she was a resident of Marengo County all her life. She was a graduate of Linden High School, class of 1951, and attended Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn.

She was appointed Postmaster of Thomaston on Oct. 12, 1968, and continued to work until her retirement. She was a member of the Thomaston United Methodist Church and served as treasurer. She was active in her community and served on the Thomaston City Council for numerous years. She was awarded a key to the city on her 75th birthday. She was a member of NAPUS and served as an officer for many years.

After retirement from the post office, she owned and managed a hay and timber farm with her sons and continued to work part time for the post office. She loved to travel and made many trips. The most memorable was a camping trip to Alaska in a pop-up camper with her five children and her mother in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan Skinner; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Smith; and a grandson, Chad Allen McDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Jordan; her children, James D. (Tabbitha) Skinner; William N. Skinner; Holly S. (William) Swindle; Steven B. Skinner; Heidi S. (David) Barnes; Howard (Geri) Jordan Jr.; Anita Wright; and William Jordan; brother, George (Mary) Smith; and Betty Hurst; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, including newborn great-grandson John William Barnes; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Thomaston United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. with the Rev, Dunford Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Thomaston Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be James D. Skinner, William N. Skinner, Steven Skinner, David Barnes, William Swindle and Clint Cannon.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jeff Laduron, Cliff Mitchell, Virgil Hinson and John Kitchens.
