ATRC to hold semi-annual meeting in Demopolis

The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission will hold a semi-annual meeting at the Demopolis Civic Center on Wednesday, April 9 at 5 p.m.

The commission holds these meetings twice a year, and the purpose is to update county and city officials on what ATRC is doing.

During the meeting, ATRC Executive Director John Clyde Riggs will give an update to county commissioners, mayors, city council members, economic development authority officials and other county and city officials.

The public is invited to attend the meeting and is asked to call ATRC Executive Assistant Evelyn Morton at (334) 682-4234 to reserve a spot. A fish and chicken dinner will be served at a cost of $20 per person. Spots can also be reserved by emailing Morton at evelyn.morton@adss.alabama.gov.

The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission is a sub-state regional, planning and development organization serving the governments of Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Dallas, Marengo, Monroe, Perry, Sumter, Washington and Wilcox Counties. ATRC is a non-profit agency concerned about meeting the needs of its 10 counties and 48 municipalities.

One of 12 such districts in Alabama, ATRC promotes area-wide progress through regional planning and development concepts in such areas as local planning, economic and community development and human resources coordination.

The Commission is governed by a board of directors, which is comprised of county and municipal elected officials, representatives of business and industry, and minority leaders.

Marengo County Commissioner Freddie Armstead represents Marengo County on the ATRC Board of Directors.
