UWA’s Whiddon named GSC Player of Week

West Alabama second baseman Jordyn Whiddon lifted four home runs in five games to earn The Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Gulf South Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Whiddon, a native of Dothan, ended her breakout week 9-for-18 at the plate with six runs and eight RBI. She is now sixth in the conference with 33 runs and tied seventh in home runs having totaled just three through the previous 32 games.

The junior hit her first home run in game one of a doubleheader at Young Harris College. She followed with a double in game two to lead UWA to a split with the Mountain Lions. In the Tigers weekend GSC series sweep over Christian Brothers, Whiddon tallied a homer in all three games.

Whiddon is the first Tiger to earn the Player of the Week honor this season.

UWA softball will kick off a 10 game home stretch with a doubleheader against Shorter on Saturday. The first pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
