Local track teams bring back seven medals from state

Track teams from three local high schools brought back a total of seven medals from the state meets over the weekend.

Demopolis High School brought back one medal, Linden High School brought back five and Marengo High School brought back one.

From Demopolis, Demetrius Kemp earned silver in the long jump with a jump of 22-feet, 11.5-inches at the 4A-6A State Track Meet in Gulf Shores.

In the 1A-3A State Track Meet in Selma, Alexis Johnson from Linden earned medals in two different events. She won gold in the triple jump with a jump of 37-feet, 5.75-inches, and she won silver in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.82 seconds.

Also winning gold for Linden was Javarius Goins. He won gold in the long jump with a jump of 21-feet, 8-inches. Goins also earned a silver at the meet with a jump of 41-feet, 8-inches in the triple jump.

Linden’s other medalist was Kynard Craig, who earned silver in the high jump with a jump of 6-feet, 6-inches.

Marengo High School’s only medal came in the girls 4×800 relay. They won the bronze with a time of 4:30.50.
