Michael Wayne Baxley, 56, passed away recently at his home.

He was born Sept. 4, 1957. A man dedicated to his family, he loved his work before retiring from UAB.

Mike was a kind, Christian man with the biggest of hearts. He was a great teacher and mentor who loved spending time with his family and friends in God’s creation of the great outdoors.

He is loved by the many friends he has made along his journey, from growing up in Demopolis to attending college at UWA and then advancing his career at UAB.

He was a member of Tannehill Valley Baptist Church with his wife, Angela Stephens Baxley, who captured his heart and shared his faith. He left this earth with strength and honor while at home with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Stephens Baxley; sons, Cory (Kimberly) Baxley of Cleveland, Ala., and Michael Box, currently stationed in the Philippines; grandchildren, Gabriel Wayne Baxley, Caey Grace Baxley, Austin Grigsby, Jayden Green; parents, Henry and Betty Baxley of Demopolis; sisters, Amy (Steve); children, Jake and Josh Albritton of Wetumpka, Charlotte (Joe), Cassie, Joseph and Paul Reed of Coatopa; beloved extended family, Crystal (Jay) Lewis and children.

Mike donated his life to Medical Education Research Institute; Genesis Legacy Research. Visitation was held Friday, May 9 from 1-2:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Tannehill Valley Baptist Church in McCalla.
